Hypocracy of unstated desires

To be specific to Christianity, I was raised in this religion and am not an expert in others...

In the social scene of (ex)Christian peers, our discussions would stereotype non-Christians and "worldly" people, In a manner very similiar to the kind that has been used throughout history to alienate a race or group of people to exploit or lower for various reasons..... We would talk about how "worldly" people were concerned all about money and this life because they knew not of anything after, they were so worried about death for this reason.

Please consider the appitimy for the fear of death, the desire that yearns from this... Man's desire for immorality, an ever lastly life with no danger of the scary abyss of emptiness and non-existance. Thanks for laughing at yourselfs again Christianity, you do the work for us.

Peek a boo- spot the theist

I went on a date a while back and me being the trouble maker that I am, when she casually mentioned something about her religion I exposed my dark little secret.

THE RESPONSE WAS HORRIBLY BEAUTIFUL!

The girl I had actually been friends with for two years and spent a few hours with this very evening, with those googly eyes blinking away, had tranformed her attitudes towards me in time beyond measure.

What amazed me...

Was that in her previous conversation her attitudes were that of one of those Christians that really wasn't in "the faith" but rather a blind follower of the family accompanying and reciting.

How could such an impassionate person become so enraged by the opposition to such a seemingly unimportant matter?

I went on to explain to her that if I were Muslim, Jew or if I were some other denomination that opposed her views or even her god in total as would have only a slight mention of objection... It is religions belief that a faith, no matter it's grounds premise or conclusion, is far better than no faith. To believe in a god is much better than believing in no god.

(previously she gave me the normal, even quotable, phrase: "I think it takes more faith to believe in no god") ... My fellow athiests, we understand they are utter morons but in their minds it makes since

It is amazing how the presentation of an ideal, a mindset have you, can drastically change the perception of the exact same person you had always known. No, not a stranger where stereotyping is a product of evolutionary efficiency but the altering of someone you have know for years...

That day, the same entertaining and attractive me split apart and turned into a demon threating her life (in her eyes)

Ottawa denies advertising to atheists

Ottawa, Canada has rejected the ad "There probably is no god" from being placed on their buses. This is ridiculous when you consider how many billboards I have seen with a Jesus figure hanging on a cross or "god is watching you" signs. I understand that they must deal with pressures of their citizens but why is it that any public speech is only a right when it does not go against societies views? Communism may not be my idea of the ideal view of a political system by why is someone in trouble for trying to spread their ambitions for the party. Our government (in the US and others I am sure) states rights that they take away as soon as it challenges the structure of the system. In this case we have the right of free speech until it challenges religion. Thanks America... and Canada it's great to see your following suit.

A member of the council has agreed to help in the turnover of this decision to not allow the ads. Please help out by asking the below members of the council to allow the ads. NOTE: please don't yell at them or be rude in anyway, we don't want them thinking all atheists are assholes. Plus that's no way to try and get what you want. Lets just send out as many polite emails as we can with rational explanation and get others to support the cause as well.

Belief persistance

In social psychology today we talked about the belief persistance. It basically states that any concept or belief you have will persist even after proven wrong. This very clearly related to religion. As an exchristian I know how I was constantly making excuses for my "faith" and adjusting my regurgitated answers to fit questions they didn't apply to. That's how it is. Religious people are always seeing things through the lens of the existance of a god and constantly ignoring the fact that their and all other gods don't exist. They are constantly challenging science which is fact and blindly following uneducated men that are pathetic and needy for a god to unconditionally love them. They can't see that all the facts show no god exists because they can't let go of the heirarchy in which they learn everything. A heirarchy established with a base that there is a god.

When I was a "Christian" and finally was becoming convinced that there might not be a god I was scared that since my life before was based on the premise of a god controlling everything I would be crushed and lost without him. But it happened and I was completely fine. Just a little adjusting old habits.

Why was it fine. Because there never was a god and the only thing that had truely changed in my life was my perception of things. Nothing that had happened previously in
My life had disappeared or changed. I just saw it from a different point of view.

More to come...

The Kingdom of Heaven

As I watched the film ( the kingdom of heaven) tonight I was once again reminded of the intolerance of the religious finatics. It is a scary thought to know any action can be rationalized and pushed forward by saying that it is gods will. Their is no criteria for approval or any such thing, people in the church simply follow any leader thinking that god has put them in that place of power. Consider this, the church down the street can have drastic differences while "following the same god and same religion". So is eternal life based on the chance of which church is closest to your home or where your friends go or any of the ACTUAL factors that decide where one places their loyalty... Just another fault in the idea of religion

Your god's an alcoholic

As I visit my girlfriends family this weekend there were a few beautiful moments and comments that stuck. Among many snark comments I slide past when there was a mention of church or god there appear an astounding sentence from her father. We were speaking of a tour of a brewery... You know, a place where they make beer. And her father said "it really is a gift from god that you get to witness".... It's crazy Catholics in this case, but applied to all, can say god is in something so opposing to his ideals.

And the truely crazy thing is everyone nodded in agreement. It is as if it does not matter what you say. As long as you say good at the end it is met with agreeance

Another sad thing was the number of churches I witnessed on the way there and back, a two hour highway drive

Will religion ever stop it's curse

I often think about the ridiculousness of religion and how it ruins so many lives but I have recently began to really contemplate if it will ever end it's curse. I think the sad truth is that it never will. I can imagine three hundred years from now with the crazy technology we have that people would stop believing in some dumb god just as thousands of years ago there had to be a god to move the sun with his chariott. We now know how the sun works but just altered our god to fit the new understanding. And I believe that is what we will always do. Who would have thought that with the science and technology we have today that we would still believe in a god rather than just admitting we don't have all the answers. Sorry, we just can't do that there has to be a god to explain it.
